Michael McCann: Vick's fate after co-defendants' sentencing
Michael Vick and his legal team received potentially discouraging news this morning, when US District Court Judge Henry E. Hudson sentenced two of Vick's co-defendants, Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips, to longer prison sentences than federal prosecutors had recommended. Peace will serve 18 months, while Phillips will serve 21 months. In exchange for the defendants' cooperation, prosecutors had recommended that each receive a sentence consistent with the lower end of the federal sentencing guidelines (12 to 18 months for Peace; 16 to 24 months for Phillips). Just as he has with Vick, however, Judge Hudson had the discretion to issue sentences in excess of the guidelines and to discount -- or altogether ignore -- the prosecutors' recommendation.Read more : 01.12.2007 08:02:00

Chris Mannix: Young Bucks falling into old trap
Michael Redd sat dejectedly in his locker, a distant look painted across his face. Nearly an hour had passed since Redd's Milwaukee Bucks blew a 12-point lead to lose to the New York Knicks; but Redd sat motionless, unable to bring himself to change out of his towel. Jon Heyman: Bedard, Haren moves could follow Santana trade
NASHVILLE, Tenn. --Superstar pitcher Johan Santana is still more likely than not to be traded here -- perhaps even by the end of the day Monday -- and once Santana's gone, attention will then turn toward Dan Haren, the A's fine and inexpensive right-hander, and Erik Bedard, who is maybe as talented as any starter outside Santana and maybe Josh Beckett.Read more : 04.12.2007 00:25:00
