Are toys these days better or worse than when you were a kid?
I think it's hard to say better or worse. As far as complexity, contruction, quality... yes, many of the newer toys are better. Of course there are exceptions, but it seems that a lot of the new toys don't really inspire creativity, skills or learning; just something to pass the time. Additionally, many parents seem to use video games, DVDs, etc. as a quasi-babysitter; which can be actually detrimental considering the content the kids are being exposed to. Illegal street racing, crime, vandalism, gang wars, and just general destruction are being glorified in the games now. Combining that with many families where both parents have to work and are unable to supervise what the kids see or do, makes for a bleak outlook on the kids' future.Read more : Wall Street Journal Forums: 20.12.2007 03:03:00
