Address by the President to the Nation on the Way Forward in Iraq - September 13, 2007
On Thursday, President Bush said, "In Iraq, an ally of the United States is fighting for its survival. Terrorists and extremists who are at war with us around the world are seeking to topple Iraq's government, dominate the region, and attack us here at home. If Iraq's young democracy can turn back these enemies, it will mean a more hopeful Middle East and a more secure America. This ally has placed its trust in the United States. And tonight, our moral and strategic imperatives are one: We must help Iraq defeat those who threaten its future and also threaten ours."Read more : White House Presidential Speeches & Remarks: 13.09.2007 12:00:00

Press Conference by the President - July 12, 2007
President Bush on Thursday said, "As President, my most solemn responsibility is to keep the American people safe. So on my orders, good men and women are now fighting the terrorists on the front lines in Iraq. I've given our troops in Iraq clear objectives. And as they risk their lives to achieve these objectives, they need to know they have the unwavering support from the Commander-in-Chief, and they do. And they need the enemy to know that America is not going to back down. So when I speak to the American people about Iraq, I often emphasize the importance of maintaining our resolve and meeting our objectives."Read more : White House Presidential Speeches & Remarks: 13.07.2007 00:00:00

D.C. Hydrants and Homeland Security
Nearly six years and hundreds of millions of dollars in homeland security "investment" after Sept. 11, 2001, and evidently the nation's capital is uncertain about the working condition of its fire hydrants ["More D.C Fire Hydrants May Be Broken," front page, May 24]. Homemade bombs being the current weapon of choice among terrorists, one would imagine that functioning hydrants would be a first priority in the war against this threat. Evidently that is an incorrect assumption.Read more : Washingtonpost Homeland Security: 29.05.2007 11:00:00
